Klipheuwel Wind Farm

Klipheuwel Wind Farm
  • 27 MW
  • Caledon, South Africa
  • Power 19 000 Homes

Klipheuwel Wind Farm is a 27 MW facility and is located about 5 km from the town of Caledon in the Western Cape Cape, spread over 350 hectares of land. The plant uses 9 x 3 MW turbines to produce approximately 86 GWh per year. This is enough energy to meet the annual needs of about 19 000 average South African homes.

This is another project which has helped me gain knowledge in the renewable energy field. Although I have not been involved in the actual maintenance of any equipment, I have undertaken some tasks at this site such as:

  • Participated in workshops for the reviewing of asset care plans to ensure that the correct maintenance activities are carried out on plant equipment
  • Developed the equipment tree for the plant
  • Equipment Identification and Verification done on core equipment. This includes serial numbers, manufacturers and equipment specific ratings
  • Occasionally provided support to technical staff on the usage of the CMMS
